Will Apple Bring Anything New to the Tablet?
So here goes Jobs and his crew again, prepping the “boom” factor for the upcoming Apple event this January 27th. One of the long-rumored announcements is that Apple will be introducing its new PDA/Tablet device-going by several monikers across the interwebs such as iSlate, iPad, iPlate, or whatever resembles a flat surface.
Here are some nifty specs on Apple’s latest contraption along with the mock-up image via AppleInsider:
“Similarly, the tablet is said to sport all the same in/out connectivity as the current iPhone 3GS, including a 3.5-mm stereo headphone jack, built-in speaker grills, a microphone, GPS, 3G connectivity and a 30-pin dock connector. Like the rendering, its 10-inch display is framed by a black border that bleeds into its wrap-around aluminum enclosure. ”
As you may also assume, just like the iPhone and iPod touch, the tablet is suppose to feature multi-touch screen functions as well. In a whole nutshell, the tablet’s pretty much a blown up iPhone with Mac OSX crammed in it-or it could just be the size of Shaquille O’Neal’s custom made iPhone.
So if you’ve got the Mac attack (such as I do), you’re already equipped with a Macbook Pro, iPhone, perhaps iPod classic and iMac at home-so why would you want to bring in a tablet into the fray? We’ll have to see soon then, but as always, Apple’s marketing geniuses will make us believe that we do need a tablet in your hands…at least for the next six months.
