Top 10 College Football Recruiting Classes of 2010, Starting with #10 MICHIGAN

With signing day (February 3, 2010) right around the corner many of the power house college football programs are trying to close in on those final top prospects for the 2010 recruiting classes. According to Scout.com, here are the Top 10 Recruiting Classes to date (January 21, 2010):

MICHIGAN

Will the Struggle Stop?

For many Michigan fans these past two seasons have been the worst in there long rich history, but some how still find a way to recruit. Rich Rodriguez has his hands full especially if he has one more disastrous year. But, there is hope at the end of this tunnel: Michigan has reestablished depth at the corner and safety positions and has locked one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, Devin Gardner. I can’t help it, but when I see Gardner’s film I see spots of Vince Young on the field.

Playing Time as a Freshman

Devin Gardner, Quarterback: Possible/Definite: With him entering school early (January), he will have a better chance of battling both Denard Robinson and Tate Forcier for the starting job. I do not believe Devin will start, but depending on his development, he will have a great opportunity. The safe pick is Tate Foricer to start, but if Denard Robinson (“shoelace”) finds a way to be accurate, watch out.

Cullen Christian, Cornerback: Definite: Michigan’s worst position last year (other than safety) is much needed and Cullen Christian is exactly what they need. He has great size for a corner at 6’1, great strength with one-on-one coverage, but may lack that 4.4 speed. You have to love his tenacity though.

Josh Furman, Safety: Possible/Definite: This guy does everything! His senior season alone, he ran for over 2,200 yards, 31 touchdowns on offense and then on defense he recorded over 60 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions. He also has great size and speed. He stands at 6’2 200 and run a 40 yard dash in 4.36. This is what Michigan has been looking for and they got him.

Possible Prospects to Sign on Signing Day with Michigan

Sean Parker, Safety: Even though he is from Los Angeles, California, Parker looks like he will sign with Michigan rather than hometown USC. Rumors say that USC had a better chance when Pete Carroll was there, but USC’s new coaching staff seemed to make a push for him. I see too much opportunity to start at Michigan.

My Opinion: He chooses Michigan.

Will Michigan Finish in the Top 10?

Recruiting wise, Michigan will finish between 10-12th this year in recruiting. Overall, this would be considered a down year for Michigan (very high standards), but considering the lack of victories on the field, Michigan should be pretty happy about this recruiting class.
