So Long, Original Xbox LIVE
Beginning this April 15, Microsoft will be discontinuing its online gaming service, Xbox LIVE, for the original Xbox which was released in 2001. The discontinuation will also affect Xbox originals and Xbox 1 titles playable on the Xbox 360.

“This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community,” said Microsoft’s Marc Whitten. First launched in 2002, Xbox LIVE has since become the cornerstone of Microsoft’s console strategy, enjoying huge popularity on the Xbox 360 with some 23 million users.
“I want to assure you that the best is yet to come for Xbox LIVE,” Whitten continued “I believe we’ll look back on 2010 as a landmark year in gaming and home entertainment, and I couldn’t be more excited about what we have in store with “Project Natal” and LIVE.”
It seems not too long ago when I first experienced the online gaming revolution that is Xbox LIVE. Countless hours of Rainbow Six 3 and Halo 2 still stirs my fond gaming memories. So long OG Xbox LIVE…I love you.
