Pitt To The Big 10?
UPDATE*** According to ZagsBlog, “There is no announcement to make because there is nothing happening,” said Pitt spokesman Mike Gladysz.
Pitt To The Big 10?
Rumors are stirring that the Pittsburgh Panthers will join the Big 10 in college football. According to sources through the internet world, the announcement date is set for February 4, 2010. Over the last ten years the Big 10 has been considered one of the weakest of the major conferences and adding a major program like Pitt will only help the Big Ten.
What Could the Big 10 Look Like?
Let’s just say the rumors are true and they add Pitt as the 12th member of the conference, I believe they will break the Big 10 into two parts: The Big 10 North and the Big 10 South.
Big 10 Conference Championship?
If the rumor stays true I believe the Big 10 will have to create a conference championship game in order to stick with the powers of the college football world (SEC/Big 12). Here is the breakdown of each team in the Big 10.
North:
Michigan
Michigan State
Ohio State
Minnesota
Indiana
Purdue
The North should definitely have Michigan and Ohio State together so “The Game” will keep its value. If you split them, then there will be a possibility that Michigan and Ohio State play twice in a season. I think that will defeat the purpose of the importance of the rivalry.
South:
Penn State
Pittsburgh
Illinois
Iowa
Northwestern
Wisconsin
The South will put Penn State and Pitt together in hope to bring a brand new rivalry to the Big Ten.
This is merely just an opinion, but it should be interesting what could happen the next few days. Stay tuned…
