Patty Jenkins to Direct ‘Thor 2′
Marvel Studios announced they have signed Patty Jenkins to direct the sequel to Thor, which is to be released Friday, November 15, 2013. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tim Hiddleston are on board to reprise their roles.
It is unfortunate Kenneth Branagh will not continue the great story of Thor, but the hiring of Jenkins only shows Marvel Studios’ commitment to making excellent films based on their characters. Jenkins is notably known for directing Monster, which won an Academy Award for actress Charlize Theron. She recently received an Emmy nomination for directing an episode of AMC’s The Killing, and directed episodes of Arrested Development and Entourage. Though some may argue that her résumé lacks a blockbuster film, the same argument was given when Branagh signed on to direct Thor, and look how that turned out. I’m confident Marvel Studios chose the right person.
Thor was a welcome surprise this year, and I cannot wait to see Norse God of Thunder back in action. In the meantime, John and I will drink shots of Mjolnir and wait in line for The Avengers.
