Marvel Planning to Introduce Superhero to the Big Screen
Marvel Studios’ success of introducing longtime comic book characters to a new generation with The Avengers (now the third highest grossing film of all time) has paved the way for more heroes to make an appearance on the silver screen.
El Mayimbe of Latino Review is reporting that Marvel Studios is in the process of making a Black Panther film, according to four “trusted sources.” The studio hired documentary filmmaker Mark Bailey to pen the screenplay earlier this year, and, according to El Mayimbe, the script is “fantastic.”
The story of T’Challa becoming the Black Panther is a great one, but is it one people will flock to theaters to watch? If Bailey really did write a script, then it shows Marvel’s commitment to making a quality film. Jon Favreau did tease fans with a map pointing to the fictitious African country Wakanda, where T’Challa is from, in Iron Man 2.
Marvel is doing its part in giving fans more films and more heroes. I’d say it is Warner Bros.’ turn to introduce some DC Comics heroes to the big screen.
