‘Ghostbusters 3′ to Start Production?

Ghostbusters 3‘ has been a somewhat of a fable with production having been dragged on for nearly 20 years, but fans of the beloved series may just be rewarded for their patience. Production Weekly is reporting Sony Studios plans on putting Ivan Reitman’s Ghostbusters 3 into production in May 2011.

Obviously this is pure speculation, but could it be that the studio is finally content with the script? The Office writing duo Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky penned the script, which includes a new group of Ghostbusters, one of them being Dana Barret’s son, Oscar, from the second film. Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis are currently tweaking the script before production begins.

Bill Murray has gone on record voicing his concern of doing the sequel, but he recently donned the awesome Ghosbusters suit (including the ever-so-important proton pack) at the Spike TV Scream Awards. Does this mean he is ready to reprise his role as Peter Venkman? I sure as hell hope so.

I know Egon, Ray, Peter and Winston aren’t so young anymore, but who wouldn’t want to see them carrying an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on their backs in 2012? Since it is the third movie, will Sony do the unexpected and film it in 3D, titling it: Ghostbusters 3D? Unfortunately sarcasm does not translate well through text, but I just want the film to be enjoyable. Let’s hope Sony doesn’t cross the streams on this one.
