Digital Cameras…Racist?

Via Time.com

The topic of facial recognition software in digital cameras and laptops has been garnering a lot of buzz on the internet lately. Joz Wang and her brother bought a Nikon S630, they thought their new camera was broken. When they would take a picture of each other, the facial recognition software would kick in asking, “Did someone blink?” When they opened their eyes as wide as possible, the messages stopped.

This isn’t the only the only camera to struggle with ethnicities that are not Caucasian. Some HP laptops have also had problems with facial recognition. At one Texas RV dealership, a white employee walked in front of the webcam and it followed her without a hitch. When a black employee tried the same thing, it stopped.

Dell was quick to point out their laptops don’t do that.

What do you think?

Wow! this is so true. That’s why I have an Apple and not an HP. Isn’t Nikon made in Japan? Did they not test out the blink feature? Good and funny article sir.
