BREAKING NEWS: Disney Buys Lucasfilm
Disney has agreed to acquire George Lucas’ Lucasfilm Ltd., which also includes the rights to the Star Wars franchise, according to Deadline Hollywood.
The transaction is worth an estimated $4.05 billion, and the company is already targeting a 2015 release for a seventh film. Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger released this statement:
“Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas. This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney’s unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value.”This news is sure to receive mixed reactions from fans of the films. On one hand, the rights are finally gone from creator George Lucas, who unfortunately gave us Episodes I-III. But on the other hand, they’re releasing more movies, which some don’t want. I am torn here. In the words of the great Ron Burgundy: “I AM IN A PICKLE!”
