“Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior” is one of my favorite martial arts films of all time right up there with “Enter the Dragon” and “Rumble in the Bronx”. In addition the star of the film, Tony Jaa, has become one of my favorite martial arts movie stars alongside the master himself, Bruce “Mother F***ing” Lee. (How many times am I going to use expletives in this article? We will just have to wait and see, but it’s pretty apparent that I am very excited about this release. If this movie was a woman, then I’d probably have a boner right now.) Seemingly out of nowhere and completely under my radar I have discovered that this movie is going to be released this Tuesday February 2nd on Blu-ray along with the sequel Ong-Bak 2: The Beginning. I of course already pre-ordered both movies on Amazon.com for $15.99 and $14.99 respectively. Both movies have something different to offer since they are not true sequels to each other as the characters and storyline do not carry over from one movie to the other. Personally I prefer the first movie “Ong-Bak: Thai Warrior”, but both are worth checking out if you are into action movies, martial arts films or just like to watch some skinny Asian dude jump around and whip a whole lot of ass (but not in a gay way). Check back next week for a review of the Blu-ray versions of the films to see how they stack up to the original DVD versions.
Update: I have canceled my Amazon.com order after finding a butr deal. This week Best Buy will be selling Ong Bak 1&2 on Blu-Ray for $17.99 each with $10 off your purchase when you buy both Blu-rays. Looks like I will be visiting Best Buy Tuesday morning to pick this up along with the “Zombieland: Nut Up or Shut Up” edition.
